Vegetarian dining at the Pear Orchard Temple
Welcome to the first vegetarian Shaxi restaurant
Pear Blossom Organic was established in 2013 after the complete renovation of the Pear Orchard Temple. The unique Shaxi vegetarian restaurant is situated off an upstairs courtyard next to the Guan Yin Hall. The space was formerly used as storage for the temple, which was moved to accommodate this bright and airy dining area.
The Pear Blossom kitchen was formerly a rice and wine storage space, so we installed electric, modern lighting and appliances.
Pear Blossom Organic is run by Chef Yang Yuju from the same Village of Diantou where the temple was originally built during the Ming Dynasty. Like most villagers, her family grows crops in the valley, so there is always a fresh supply of home-grown produce which are not sprayed with commercial pesticides. Depending on the season, she also buys from the Shaxi Friday Market.
Her menu is a fun and very local style offering of home grown and locally purchased favorites.
Advance reservations are required at the Shaxi temple restaurant. Please call Sam (Mrs.) at the Old Theatre Inn if you are not a guest there. We will be pleased to arrange a private dining experience for you, either indoors or on our high terrace overlooking the Shaxi Valley.

We invite you to explore the natural flavors of Shaxi through our local-style cooking. Through this temple restaurant, we share our pride in Baizu Shaxi culture and happiness in welcoming people to our community.
Our food is sourced from the farms of our staff and our neighbors in Diantou Village. Dishes are seasonal, based on what is fresh and available at Friday Market. As these are local family farms, we do not use pesticides or hormones of any kind, nor do we use any MSG in our cooking.
We value our unique Bai culinary heritage and hope you will appreciate its simplicity and authenticity of local flavors.
